Ravenswood has the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson (aka: J&J, Janssen) COVID-19 vaccines. RFHN receives vaccines from the Public Health Departments of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties and directly for the Federal Health Resource Services Administration.
COVID-19 Vaccines are now available to individuals age 12 or older.
For the Ravenswood Community Vaccine Clinics, you DO NOT need an appointment.
Yes. Ravenswood and MayView providers are offering COVID vaccines to our registered patients at the time of their medical visits.
The COVID-19 vaccine will teach your immune system how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19 so that you may either prevent an infection or have milder infection. The thousands of vaccine trials and the millions of people who have now been vaccinated have demonstrated that serious illness, hospitalization and death can be prevented when people are vaccinated against COVID-19.
The most common side effects include:
- Local pain at the injection site
- Muscle pain
- Joint pain
These typically last 1-3 days and are more commonly reported after the second dose.
Severe allergic reactions are rare, but may occur. If it does occur, it will shortly be after receiving the vaccine injection. Therefore, we ask everyone to stay at least 15 minutes so that we can observe them for immediate side effects or 30 minutes if there is a history of severe allergic reactions. Please make sure to let us know if you have had these types of reactions before, or if you are a highly allergic individual so that we can watch you more closely. Please note that you may have reactions after the observation period. Once you leave, if you have any further reactions of concern to you, please contact 911 if you feel it is an emergency or contact your primary care provider if you have any other questions.
Among the 6.8 million people who received the J&J vaccine through April 13, 2021, there were 6 cases, later found to be 17 cases, of women and 1 man who developed a blood clot within approximately 2-3 weeks of receiving the vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) called for a pause of the use for a couple of weeks while they investigated the circumstances. CDC and FDA allowed the use of J&J to continue after their investigation due to the rarity of the side effect and the considerable benefit to the millions of persons who received and could receive the vaccine without harm.
If after you have received the J&J vaccine and develop severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain or shortness of breath within 3 weeks after vaccination, seek medical care immediately.
